Felted Flowers: Himalayan Blue Poppies
WHO: 14 and up
WHEN: July 11th-12th, Saturday and Sunday from 12-3pm (two-day class; no single day registration)
Experience the magic of the Himalayan Blue Poppy at the Alaska Botanical Garden with fiber artist Margaret Mackie. In this two-day outdoor workshop, you will create a vibrant wool “painting” inspired by this rare and luminous flower, capturing the colors, textures, and delicate beauty of the garden in your artwork.
The first session focuses on wet felting techniques; you will layer and blend fine Merino wool to build the foundation of your design and explore textures and color transitions. In the second session, you will bring your piece to life with detail by adding needle felting, embroidery, and beading, adding depth and intricate detail to your Himalayan Blue Poppy. Surrounded by the very flowers that inspire the work with a chance to see them in full bloom, you will have the opportunity to observe and translate their color, form, and energy directly into fiber
No experience is required, and all materials are provided. Open to ages 14 and up. This relaxed, outdoor class invites you to settle into the garden, enjoy the creative process, and leave with a unique felted artwork celebrating one of the season’s most extraordinary flora.
Spots are limited reserve ahead of time. There is a $5 cancellation fee for all cancellations. No refunds for cancellations made with less than 48 hours notice.
