FAQs
-
Alaska Botanical Garden is an outdoor facility, with plants growing outside between mid-March and mid-September.
ABG’s half-mile paved loop connects the various gardens. There is non-accessibility grade elevation on segments of the loop. Click here to view the Garden Map.
Bears are active in the Garden and surrounding Campbell Track. Please practice bear safety and do not bring food beyond the Nursery. ABG staff is trained for the occurrence of a bear in the Garden and equipped with bear spray.
Mosquito repellent is recommended. The Garden also has complimentary bug repellent available for guests.
Please dress for the weather!
-
Only trained service dogs are allowed in the Garden.
Emotional support animals are not allowed in the Garden.
Dogs are allowed on the Garden’s perimeter trail outside the moose fence (please watch for bear and moose activity).
-
Be prepared to walk through the Boreal Forest when visiting Alaska Botanical Garden. We recommend checking the weather before your visit and prepare accordingly.
During June and July, you should expect mosquitos. We sell a local and all-natural insect repellent at admissions or you may bring your own. If applying repellent with DEET, please do so in our parking lot to avoid damaging the vegetation in the Garden. -
ABG does not sell food or beverages on site.
As a bear safety precaution, food and open beverages are allowed only in the front plaza area. Picnic tables in the plaza area can accommodate small groups and are available for guest use on a first-come/first-served basis.
-
ABG is wheelchair, walker, and stroller friendly. Each garden within our grounds is accessible via the half-mile long paved loop.
Surfaces within each specific garden vary between gravel and woodchip paths, which may not be accessible to equipment with small wheels.
Some portions of the entryway and half-mile paved loop have a slight incline/decline.
In addition, we have one motorized electric mobility cart available for guests on a first-come/first-served basis. There is no fee to use the motorized cart.
Please contact us at (907) 770-3692 with any questions.
