Dear Friends of the Alaska Botanical Garden,

As the Garden enters this vibrant season of growth and renewal, we are writing to share an important leadership transition update with you. After 14 years of dedicated service to our organization, eight of which he served as the Executive Director, Mike Monterusso has departed to pursue his next professional chapter. His passion for our mission has been a cornerstone of the Garden’s evolution, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors.

To ensure seamless operations during this transition, the Board of Directors has established an Interim Leadership Council. This experienced internal team is managing daily tasks, sustaining our vital programming, and maintaining campus activities without interruption. Our organizational foundation is exceptionally robust; as detailed in our recent 2025 Year in Review, annual visitation has surpassed 27,000 guests, membership continues a steady 10% annual climb, and 79% of our revenue is independently earned.

With the public search officially launching this week through The Foraker Group, the Board is concurrently assembling a representative search committee. This group will oversee the recruitment process, coordinate outreach, and review applications over the next few months to identify our next leader.

We deeply appreciate your partnership as we embrace this next chapter.
