Nighttime Photography Workshop

Ray Bulson's popular night photography class is being offered twice this year! The same content will be covered in each class so please only register for one night.

Night photography presents different challenges from daytime photography, but once mastered, it opens up a whole new way of expressing your creativity. The two most important challenges are focusing and exposure.  In this workshop, Eagle River photographer Ray Bulson will show participants techniques to achieve sharp nighttime photos with proper exposure.  Participants will walk the botanical grounds to capture the many beautiful light and ice sculpture displays.  Fun exercises will include creative techniques of light trails, motion blurs, and steel wool photography. There will be a short inside class discussion, but the majority of the class will take place outside.

Participants will need a camera with a wide angle lens (preferably a zoom) and be familiar with using the manual settings of their camera. Also, you will need a fully charged battery (and an extra), tripod and a flashlight/headlamp. A remote shutter release (cable or wireless) is recommended. Dress warm for being outside at single digit temperatures for 2 hours.
