Call for proposals
Donor Wall, Sculpture
The Alaska Botanical Garden (ABG) is soliciting proposals from qualified artists who would be interested in the design, fabrication, and installation of a donor recognition wall sculpture for the entry plaza at ABG. The design is scheduled for installation in May 2021. The scope of this work will include, but is not limited to, design and fabrication of a 35-40 square foot donor wall sculpture for the entry way plaza at the Garden. The sculpture must be ready to hang/install, safely constructed, and be able to be displayed outside in cold temperatures (i.e., utilizing materials that can withstand, rain, wind, snow, sun exposure etc.). The design will need to have the ability to be mounted to posts or have a stand-alone base as there is no actual “wall” to mount it to. The design will need to allow room for donor labels and text to be included within the sculpture or to be designed in such a way that allows for signage or name plaques to be added below or around the sculpture by the Garden. Ideal proposals would include a botanical reference or element such as a tree, plants, leaves, or organic shapes to be determined by the artist. The proposed donor wall sculpture should be compatible with the Alaska Botanical Garden’s mission and complement the style and design of the garden entrance. The Alaska Botanical Garden visualizes an artistic representation with a botanical element or reference that is durable for high (visitor) traffic area. The total budget for this project is a flat-rate $10,000 to cover the artist fee, all production costs, materials, expenses, transportation, insurance and all other associated fees in the one-time flat rate. Preference will be given to artists who live and work in Alaska. Deadline to submit is end of day Monday, March 15th.
