Schools in the Garden
Field Trips during the School Year
at the Alaska Botanical Garden
Teachers of kindergarten through sixth grades can contact the Anchorage School District (stevens_marva@askd12.org) to arrange for a four hour excursion to visit the Alaska Botanical Garden.
Tours include four rotations of about 40 minutes each including: a garden tour, a focus lesson, and 2 related hands-on activities. The rotations were developed by and are taught by retired teachers and are designed to support Anchorage School District Curriculum. The lessons integrate literature and math.
The cost is $7 per student. Participants need to be prepared for weather since there are no indoor facilities. There are port-a-potties available. Areas are available to eat sack lunches. The program can accommodate 2 classrooms or 60 students per field trip.
